About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Minneapolis at 729 S 10th St, Band Box Diner stands as a charming tribute to the classic American diner experience, serving up timeless comfort food with a side of genuine warmth. This beloved local hotspot specializes in diner cuisine, focusing on hearty breakfasts and juicy, flavorful burgers that keep both locals and visitors coming back for more.

Step inside Band Box Diner and you immediately feel the inviting, no-frills atmosphere that takes you back to a simpler time. The open kitchen offers a front-row seat to the skilled short-order cooking that turns fresh, quality ingredients into memorable meals. Whether you’re craving a satisfying breakfast or a mouthwatering burger, every dish here is made with care and executed perfectly.

The breakfast menu is a celebration of classic American staples done right. Picture plates filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and golden sourdough toast. The Bro Omelette and 3 Cheese Omelette are packed with rich, melty cheese and fresh veggies, while the Pancake Face delivers a stack of fluffy pancakes that melt in your mouth. Don’t overlook the homemade American fries and perfectly seasoned house-cut French fries, ideal as a side that satisfies that craving for crispy, golden comfort.

Lunch and dinner favorites center around Band Box’s star attractions: their burgers. Crafted from fresh 1/3 lb. Angus beef, these patties are juicy, tender, and seared on a pillowy bun toasted on the flat top that makes every bite an exquisite balance of textures. Highlights like the Dude Ranch Burger, the indulgent Double Cheeseburger with Bacon & House Fries, and the savory Mushroom Swiss Burger offer layers of flavor—oozing melted cheese, perfectly cooked onions (raw or fried), crispy bacon, and a flavorful beef patty that’s seasoned just right. As one delighted customer described, these burgers come with "just the right amount of that good diner grease" that elevates them far above typical fast food fare. Pair your burger with their remarkably crisp onion rings or fresh cut house fries for a meal that truly satisfies.

The menu also caters to varied tastes, offering a Veggie Burger Sandwich loaded with garden-fresh produce and cheese, as well as classic sandwiches like the Tuna Melt that are crafted with care and bursting with flavor. Every cup of coffee here is brewed superbly, a perfect companion for any meal, and the welcoming staff—who customers often guess are owners themselves—make the dining experience feel intimate and personal.

Customer testimonials capture the essence of Band Box Diner perfectly. Mata P calls it “the cutest little hidden gem,” praising the burger’s soft, toasted buns and juicy patties, while Michael Green highlights the consistently amazing breakfast and Grade A burger “with great service and atmosphere.” Pamela Enz appreciates the nostalgic vibe of seeing the cook work in the open kitchen, and Jamez raves about the historic authenticity and the best onion rings around. Hena Yakoob’s praise for a cozy, straightforward diner with warm service rounds out the sentiments of a beloved neighborhood staple that welcomes both locals and out-of-towners with open arms.

If you’re seeking an authentic, no-nonsense diner that masterfully serves timeless American breakfast and burger classics with a side of friendly, heartfelt service, Band Box Diner is a must-visit in Minneapolis. It’s not just a meal; it’s a delicious, comforting experience that leaves you refreshed and eager to return.

This is the cutest little hidden gem! The burgers are delicious!!! You must try one! They're on a soft pillowy bun that's toasted right on the flat top with that jucy burger patty. They have just the right amount of that good diner grease that make them so much better than any old fast food burger. Get them with the shoestring fries (upgrade from chips), and you have a winning combination!

Amazing breakfast and it’s always the same three people working (I’m assuming owners) On top of the breakfast always being the best classic dinner in town, the burger is Grade A. I love the service and atmosphere. Great coffee too. Please go check them out!

This is a fun place to have a quick meal. The pancakes were amazing. The eggs perfectly done. And the service was prompt. I love going places where I can see the short order cook and this one was right in the open. These places are getting harder and harder to find. No chain restaurant food here! Only the fresh ingredients that you get in a place like this.

Fantastic spot to grab a burger! If you want a burger from a historic, and real authentic Diner, you've gotta come here. It dates all the way back to the 1930s! My Swiss and mushroom burger was great, and I've never had onion rings THAT good!! Good experience, would and will definitely be back.

Loved this cozy, straightforward diner for breakfast. Menu is small but they make a classic American breakfast well. And the people were nice. Felt like a spot for locals but the service was warm to us out-of-towners. Would recommend to anyone who wants a casual meal that hits the spot!

Breakfast was fantastic! The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The sourdough bread was fresh and toasted just right, and the coffee was absolutely delicious — smooth and rich. Great way to start the day!

The guy that owns the joint works the grill and is very friendly. I’m visiting from out of town and I have thought about my breakfast here all day. I’m coming back tomorrow before I fly out. Typical, greasy diner fare, but cooked to perfection for what it is. And tasted magnificent! Cool, vintage vibes and some history on the walls. These places have mostly died out, so I’m happy to do my part in supporting this business to keep it alive.
